Slow institutional records first, disqualifying questions second, structural fixes third, and irreversible personal decisions last. Reversing that order can create avoidable costs and commitments.
Slow and free before fast and final
Three conditions govern this route: citizenship of Canada or Mexico, a position inside a profession the published schedule lists, and the qualification that entry names. Two of them depend on documents that other organisations issue at their own pace, so those requests go out immediately and cost nothing. While they are in flight, check the questions that could end the plan outright, which are all answerable from documents already in hand or from a careful reading of the schedule against the actual duties. Only then spend money on evaluations or opinions. The resignation, the lease and the move come last, because each of them removes an option that a late unwelcome answer would otherwise leave open.
The first review should produce a three-column chart: the actual job duties, the schedule entry being relied on, and the record that proves each qualification. The employer’s signed duty description resolves the first column; the schedule resolves the second; the transcript, licence, or experience record resolves the third. Do not substitute a persuasive title for a duty comparison. The decision is whether to proceed under the existing role, change the assignment, or use another category. Hypothetical example: an urban-planning consultant is offered a role that is mostly zoning-data administration, so the review compares that day-to-day work with the claimed profession before the employer sets a start date.
