Hypothetical example: in a household along the north shore, one spouse is a registered nurse holding a hospital offer and the other plans harvests for a forestry contractor. Both are excited, and neither has yet asked the questions that would settle whether the move is possible. Who exactly employs you? Which licence does the destination state require, and when can it realistically be issued? What does the company own, and what does it merely brand? Answers to a handful of specific questions eliminate most bad plans in an afternoon. Enthusiasm is not a problem, but enthusiasm that skips those questions produces files that collapse late.
Every route has a small number of questions that determine it. For work in a listed profession under the reciprocal North American arrangement, ask about citizenship, the schedule entry, the licence and who directs the work. For an intracompany move, ask what the ownership documents actually say and what the payroll shows for the past three years. For a treaty investment, ask when the money stops being recoverable and whether the business supports more than a minimal living. For the immigrant investor route, ask where every dollar came from and who will fill the ten positions. The Gold Card framework has its own separate questions.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
Four written answers usually settle whether a professional offer can work at all.

Write the questions down and send them, rather than raising them in conversation. A recruiter answering by phone will say what they believe; the same person answering in writing will check first, and the written answer becomes part of the record. Good questions are narrow and factual: name the employing entity, name the licensing body, give the date the last audited statement covers, state who signs the transferee's performance review. Questions that invite reassurance produce reassurance. Questions that ask for a document name produce a document, and the document is what a decision-maker will eventually read.

A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
Write out every fact the plan takes for granted, including the ones that feel obvious. Assumptions that nobody states are the ones nobody checks, and they are where late failures come from.
Convert each assumption into a narrow question addressed to whoever actually knows: an employer, a seller, a registrar, a licensing body or an accountant. Vague questions receive vague answers.
Ask for the answer by email and for the document behind it where one exists. A written answer can be checked, dated and relied on; a remembered conversation cannot.
For each item that comes back empty, decide whether the plan can proceed without it, whether it can be answered another way, or whether it should stop the plan.
Some questions will come back unanswered, and an unanswered question is information rather than a dead end. A hospital that cannot say when a licence will issue has told you the schedule is not in its control. A seller who will not disclose what the business earned has told you something about the diligence ahead. A company that cannot produce a share register has told you the corporate work has not been done. Record these honestly rather than filling the gap with an assumption, because the gap will still exist when someone else reads the file, and it will be more expensive then.
Find your pathwayA remote consultation for a Shuniah household is most useful once the questions have been asked and the answers, including the missing ones, are written down. Bring the offer or the transaction in outline, the entity names, the answers received and the questions that went unanswered. Shneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton work through which of the outstanding items actually matter to the route being considered and which can safely be left open. Where an answer would change the recommendation, that is said plainly. Consultations are remote, no filing is made here, and no assessment can predict how a particular officer will read a particular file.
Let’s connectArrange a remote consultation to discuss your next steps.
Which state licence the role requires, what stage the applicant's licensure is at, which entity is the legal employer, and whether any shifts are worked at a facility the hospital does not operate.
Very little. Ask for the same answer in writing and for the underlying document. A written answer can be dated and checked; a remembered conversation cannot be produced later.
Treat the refusal as an answer. Record what was asked and what came back, and decide whether the route can proceed with that item unresolved.
No. The saved coverage row is the Municipality of Shuniah. Dorion, Nipigon and the other district municipalities are separate and are not included here.
